Well! Considering we got in so much trouble in the comments the last time we mentioned the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival 2007 in conjunction with zombies, we think this time we’re going to be really careful with what we say about the exciting news that George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead is to play this year’s Midnight Madness program. So all we'll say is that we think that’s going to be really good, and everyone involved in the production, even those who look like zombies, are truly beautiful and special people.

Though perhaps not as beautiful and special as Donnie Yen, starring in Wilson Yip’s Flash Point, to also be playing as part of the programme. The pair already blew us away with the superb SPL during TIFF 2005 so we can’t wait.

Also part of the programme is Hitoshi Matsumoto’s Dainipponjin (roughly translated as “The Big Japanese Person”), Canadian/USA production Stuck, and Fumihiko Sori’s awesome looking Vexille. Full details are available on the Midnight Madness blog, with more titles yet to be announced.

As Midnight Madness is resolutely not for kids, it’s nice that they’ve also announced this year’s Sprockets Family Zone films, which includes the feature directorial debut from Canadian filmmaker Aristomenis Tsirbas, Terra, the Guillaume brothers’ Max & Co. and Thai film Mid Road Gang, which features the intriguingly named canine character Sexy the Poodle.

Finally, also announced today was the Wavelengths programme. Arguably the most overlooked programme, we enjoyed what we saw of it last year, and this year are particularly looking forward to Wavelengths 1 (What the Water Said) featuring Pool, from Toronto-based artist Chris Chong Chan Fui, Wavelength’s 4 (In The Space Of Time) featuring Nicky Hamlyn's Quartet, and Wavelengths 6 (Pour Vos Beaux Yeux) featuring Henri Storck's 1929 film Pour Vos Beaux Yeux, in which a young dandy who tries to send a glass eye through the post.
