The Daily Photoist: Keeping The People At Bay

Every weekday, we pick an image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It's our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!

Though we're big fans of increasing the green space around the city, this shot by Flickr pool contributor mechrisman shows that pavement can also be beautiful. Looking down on Nathan Phillips Square from City Hall, the minimalist theme and striking diagonal grid are interrupted by an organic human form placed almost like a neon chess piece. We like how this composition isolates a desolate-looking moment in a place that we know is full of people, noise and action.

Really lovely shot, and it reminds me of another similar-looking photo in the pool today, of a kneeling Argo player on a slab of concrete, shot from above.
