Spacing Goes Swimming

"Water," Spacing's summer issue, is finally out, available at your favourite bookstores throughout the city. Devoted to "Toronto’s ravines, rivers, water towers, sewers, and waterfront," "Water" is intended to be "a snapshot of Toronto’s relationship with water and how it shapes our everyday lives." The sneak peeks inside the magazine (featuring some photography by the ever-awesome Miles Storey) look as gorgeous as ever, and we're itching to get our hands on a copy.

Of course, with every Spacing issue comes a release party, and, as usual, this one is land-locked. Though the mag originally wanted to hold the party on a boat (which would have been sweet), the whole thing was re-routed to the Gladstone (1214 Queen Street West) because of cost. It's okay, though, because the link to water is still there: William Gladstone's middle name is "Ewart"—an anagram for "Water"—and the guy saved a whole ton of water in the nineteenth century by "[taking] up the hobby of tree felling"! What a man!

The "Water" release party takes place at the Gladstone on Wednesday starting at 8 p.m. Bring $10 and wear white or blue clothing, and you'll get admission and a copy of "Water" in exchange. Plus, you can reserve tickets for an August boat cruise that Spacing does plan to host, for twenty-five-ish bucks. Mr. Gladstone would certainly approve.
