RIP Honest Ed, City Versus OMB On Condos, And Wanna Cheap Xbox?

blurryed.jpg"Honest Ed" Mirvish dies at 92. As the man himself would say: He may be gone, but his bargains sure aren't. Torontoist's obituary for him can be found here. Details on the funeral are here.

Toronto police board still making up its mind about whether or not to approve Tasers. Insert bad joke about "shocking" here if you want to pretend that you are actually listening to Humble and Fred rather than reading Torontoist.

New LRT lines could be up and running as early as 2011. However, they will require everybody to get out and push.

If you wear an iPod and get struck by lightning, you may get injured! No, really! Somebody at the Canadian Press thought this was worthy of an newspaper article! Newsflash: if you get hit by lightning period you will probably get injured. It doesn't matter what you're carrying or wearing—rubber gloves, a sweater made entirely of solid gold, a trusty quarterstaff—if you get hit by lightning, the odds are strongly in favour of it sucking!

City takes Ontario Municipal Board to court over condo developments at Queen and Dovercourt. The city does not want condos there, but in a comedy of errors have completely botched multiple ways to prevent the developer from building said condos. Ah, municipal politics—you never cease to amuse.

And finally: Microsoft drops the price of the Xbox. Long story short: the Nintendo Wii is selling like hotcakes so Sony and Microsoft are having a fire sale. (Well, Microsoft is kind of having a fire sale. The PS3 is still $499 after the price cut, which is awfully more than Torontoist wants to spend to play Pac-Man. You can play Pac-Man on one of these game systems, can't you?)

Christopher Bird,

You can play the (mostly superb) Pac-Man Championship Edition on Xbox360. It's a bit pricey at 12 odd dollars but it's great. Great!

This comments login sucks, I have to say.

Also -- you afraid to point to Spacing's site about the removal of the death of the Universal Love Machine?

In my view this is a must read and pretty scary article on the Queen West fiasco and the crisis in the City Planning Dept.

Far more realistic than John Barber's "to the barricades!" ranting. The City should abandon the fight on Queen West because it will likely lose and by concentrating on this because it's in a trendy neighbourhood it is losing time to stop the WalMart in Leslieville.

Guest [2]: We had a post about the tree removal with photos yesterday (before Spacing).

Not only do they have PacMan on Xbox Live Arcade but they also have Ms. Pacman and the all new and raver like Pacman World Championship edition.

Not only that, Guest #2, I linked to Spacing's article the moment that it was up on their site!
