Kensington Wears Heart

2007_07_25HOYS.jpgEmbracing the new black each season can sometimes be a difficult task—especially considering fashion’s maniacally unpredictable cycles. And with this year’s new black—green—being a complete lifestyle makeover, things may seem just a little bit overwhelming.
Fortunately, Heart On Your Sleeve, an ethical, earth friendly boutique, makes its debut later tomorrow evening at 61A Bellevue Avenue (the corner of Bellevue Avenue and Nassau Street) in Kensington Market, and will cater to all of your fashion-green desires.
Having only recently launched their online store in May, Heart On Your Sleeve is coming to leave a big, carbon-free footprint in Toronto, providing a vast array of Canadian designed and produced articles.
With some interesting (and very snazzy) independent brands such as Thieves, MotherTrucker and Passenger Pigeon, Torontoist is pretty stoked.
The gala party takes place tomorrow from 5–10 p.m., featuring musical appearances by Samba Elegua and indie singer-songwriter, Jacqueline Rendell (who seems to have also “put the noose to use” at this eco-boutique); ribbon cutting by Ecoholic author, Adria Vasil; and, finally, a fashion show—because what’s a boutique grand opening gala without a fashion show?

    To really be green you would have to give up consumerism.
    I’ve developed a problem with ecoholic over the years because it is generally about buying things.
    If you really want to be green, try one of Kensington’s many second hand stores.
    Note: I am totally not fashionable.

    I totally agree, but I do find sometimes it’s difficult to find everything you need second hand. (ie. gitch….)
    So the best idea is to buy eco when you have to buy something new, and support small canadian designers who are still producing/manufacturing in this country!
