Yesterday, thousands of University of Toronto students took to the front campus to protest the University's policy of allowing graduating students to bring no more than two guests to their Convocation ceremony. Their attempt at revolution fell short, and the policy stands.
No, actually, the above is a shot from the trailers for the Don Cheadle vehicle Talk To Me, arriving in theatres today. Based on the context, we would guess it's supposed to be a civil rights march on Washington (though not the famous 1963 one, as the movie begins three years later).
We're glad that filmmaker Kasi Lemmons—probably the only African American woman directing movies in Hollywood—chose to return to Toronto to make Talk To Me; her previous film, the Toronto-shot The Caveman's Valentine (a 2001 flop starring Samuel L. Jackson as a homeless man), evidently stalled her career. Then again, its hero was named "Romulus"; the fact that the protagonist of her new movie is not named "Romulus" can only be a plus, box office-wise.

I am looking forward to seeing the new film. Although it was panned by many, I thought that The Caveman's Valentine was excellent.
I regret that I wasn't able to integrate into my post a mention that Lemmons's directorial debut, Eve's Bayou, was named by Roger Ebert as the best movie of 1997.
