The Daily Photoist: Dome

Every weekday, we pick an image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It's our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!

What we like about this capture by Flickr pool contributor monkeyridingdog is its take on adventure photography. This rappeller isn't climbing a summit of frozen ice, but the air-supported bubble at Varsity Stadium. We can easily picture a pair of crampons and a pickaxe in this urban climber's hands.

The dome was inflated during the colder months to allow for year-round sports, and it's one of the largest of its kind in Canada at 107-metres long and 18-metres high. The currently-dismantled bubble is part of the new $62 million redevelopment of Varsity Stadium, which includes the new 5,000-seat grandstand, instructional facilities, playing field and scoreboard.
