The Daily Photoist: Yonge & Dundas fountains 6

Every weekday, we pick an image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It's our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!

There was a time a few years ago where the Dundas Square security team would take you down for even looking like you were having fun. These days, the public has finally started using it for its intended purpose thanks to a relaxation of security rules, the addition of chairs and tables and better event utilization. Dundas Square still has many detractors, but few can deny that the one element the designers got right are the fountains, beautifully captured by Torontoist Flickr pool contributor unicornpower. The rising fountain, the barefooted girl in the background and the facial expression on the jumping kid remind us why we love Toronto in the summertime.

Though we don't officially recommend it, the water from the fountains is treated with bromine, tested daily and is safe to drink. There are 600 water nozzles in the square, and each grille outputs an water equivalent of three fire hoses when running at capacity and can rise to a height of more than two metres.
