Mike’s Love Opened The Door!

Rejoice!
Two weeks ago, we told you about Michael Takasaki’s near-obsessive photographing of the non-functional automatic doors at the Pleasant Boulevard entrance to St. Clair station. He’s spent (almost) every single day of the last eight months photographing the doors, waiting for them to be fixed.
Well, earlier tonight, Michael sent us an e-mail to let us know that (as pictured) the tape is off the doors and…yes!…the doors are opening. Fear no more, those who wish to use the automatic doors at the Pleasant Boulevard entrance to St. Clair station; your day has come.

Why couldn’t he just use the normal doors next to the automatic doors?

Not sure about Michael personally, but the automatic doors are, I assume, meant to be accessible (for people in wheelchairs and the like). It’s not so much the lack of convenience for Michael, I don’t think, but the fact that the doors took a year to get fixed.

I could use the normal doors and I did. But when it’s busy,having only one set of doors available for people entering and exiting the station is a pain in the ass. Even more so when they lock one of the doors.
The set of photos was definitely born of that frustration, but it wasn’t really about my not being able to use a set of doors. If it’s about anything (and I’m not saying it was), it’s about the goofy things the TTC unwittingly does (or doesn’t do) that squander the goodwill that people are inclined to have for it.

last night i was waiting for someone by the doors, and they made me jump when they opened!
the doors seem a tad on the small side for wheelchair access…
