Come and join Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market this weekend by celebrating the sun and the recent summer solstice. Join the Guerrilla Gourmet and "Brook the Cook" for a special summer street picnic. Ten dollars buys you a share in their "three course carbon free meal," featuring the season's local organic ingredients all cooked using Brook's amazing "grill," which focuses the sun's rays to heat the cookware (shown above). The picnic begins at 4 p.m. across from La Palette (256 Augusta Avenue). Brook is asking customers to reserve a spot as space is limited. Call (905) 484-2389.

At 2 p.m. near Baldwin and Augusta there will be a sun piñata. This model differs from other piñatas in that all the children need to pull on the strings of the piñata simultaneously to unravel its bounty instead of each kid lining up to take a swing. After that there will be a series of "fire stories" told by members of the community and the local fire department, followed by a fashion show in which $25 Canadian will buy you $50 Kensington, and contestants purchase clothes from merchants around the market. There will be judging and prizes afterwards.

At 4:30 p.m. there will be a "procession of the Sun King." This event starts at the south end of Kensington Avenue and will wind its way up to College Street and Augusta Avenue, where you will also find volunteers offering free bike repairs. The parade will also feature the sounds of the samba group Maracatu Nunca Antes.

Other musical features include The Screwed at Graffitti's from 3-6 p.m., Escalade at the Embassy from 3-5 p.m., Henry Faberge and the Adorables at the Embassy from 5-7 p.m., and Grupo Uniao na Capoeira at Oxford and Augusta, starting at 5 p.m.

On the northern part of Augusta Avenue, there will be Flamenco demonstrations by Esmeralda Enrique's Spanish Dance Company from 2-4 p.m., Tango dancing from 5-7 p.m., Michael J's Red Rhythm from 7-8 p.m., Gypsey Rebels from 8-9pm, and finishing off the evening from 9-10 p.m. is Richard Underhill's Kensington Community Horns, Samba Elegua, and everyone else who wants to join in the festivities!
