Hamilton Gets Hockey, Atlantic Provinces Get The Shaft, And Toronto's Newest Dump Is Peachy Keen!

News_14July07.jpgHamilton okays plan to adopt the Nashville Predators. Of course, the question of what their new name will be remains unanswered. Bear in mind the last time anybody got to suggest names for an Ontario sports team, one of the serious final choices was "Terriers." Because nothing says "bad-ass sports team" like a yappy little dog.

Toronto's newest landfill site is a peach! Everybody loves it! It's the best open-air garbage dump ever!

Atlantic provinces set to lose billions under Stephen Harper's equalization plan. Also, Saskatchewan is threatening to sue him. Hey, remember during the last federal election campaign when he insisted that rejiggering equalization payments was as easy as pie? Ah, the schadenfreude, it is delicious.

Toronto's most controversial hairstylist goes bankrupt. Jie Matar's Salon Jie owed about $1.5 million and had assets of just under three thousand dollars. Matar proposed repaying the government about six hundred thousand dollars of the approximately $1.3 million Salon Jie owed them. Oddly, suggesting that he pay back less than half of his debt did not work for them for some reason.

And the Jays waxed the Giants 7-4. Take that, Barry Bonds! You suck!

I can't be the first person to have thought of this, but wouldn't it be cool if the new team came to Toronto and played in Maple Leaf Gardens?

...ok so the name would have to change ...or something. I just like the idea an ice rink instead of a Loblaws.

Ok, look who has the freakin' Stanley Cup this year. The Terriers sounds about 1000x more ferocious than a duck. :)

I wonder if there would be issues from the CFL or MLB if the name previously used for a Hamilton NHL team (the Tigers in the early 1920s) were seriously considered.
