We know that you have been enjoying the LED lights on the CN Tower, but so far, they have just been ironing out the kinks. Until now.
Tonight, June 28, there will be an official lighting ceremony. And it wouldn't be the world's largest phallic object freestanding structure that we know and love if it didn't throw a huge bash to celebrate the event.
Starting at 9 p.m. there will be live entertainment and a huge ceremony at the Roundhouse park across from the south side of the CN Tower. This will culminate at 10 p.m. when the CN Tower will give a spectacular light show to show off just how powerful their new LED light system really is.
Afterwards, the CN Tower will settle into its regular lighting, an "architectural illumination" at the top of each hour.
The 1,330 new LED lighting fixtures are about the size of a shoebox and are capable of millions of colours. The lights will illuminate the tower from dusk until 1 a.m. with special thematic lights for holidays. They were also developed with FLAP, the Fatal Light Awareness Program, to make sure that the lights do not cause bird mortality during migration seasons.
Also, in celebration of the new lights, the CN Tower is offering a special Sunset Admission Offer. You can purchase tickets to the top of the CN Tower for a discounted rate of $10 after 8 p.m. from June 28–July 1st.

“Come on baby”? I’d say you were missing a vocative comma there. (They aren’t optional.)
Those who fail to learn the lessons of Dexy’s Midnight Runners are doomed to repeat them.
Also - the Tower will be open until 1 am (instead of the usual summer closing time of 11pm) from Thursday-Sunday. It will be a great time to see the city lights from up top and probably won't be busy - you can even grab a drink upstairs if you want.
Did the show start early? I've been sitting on my balcony staring at the thing since 9:50 and there's been nothing. Now 10:33 and counting...
By my clock, it started at 10:36 and lasted 7 minutes. Ah well, most things that are pretty aren't punctual.
OMIGOD!!! Good Lord up above, thank you for blessing the CNTOWER with this new gorgeous LED lighting technology from Boston USA and God please bless the beautiful CNTOWER and the glorious city of Toronto , Canada and all it's inabitants (including the racoons).
Hey,I've got a (somewhat contrevorsial, but cute) idea/fantasy. check this out.
I happen think the the Rogers centre should be demolished next year and be re-located and re-built by the year 2012 in the big empty space in North-York called Downsview park (formerly known as CFB Downsview). By the year 2016 (the year the old 1970's CNTOWER's turns 40) in the space formerly occupied by old 1989 skydome ,there will be built AN EXACT replica , an identical twin, an exact clone of the current CNTOWER.
BOTH towers wll be connected by an elegant bridge at the observation decks , a la the petronas towers in Malaysia ! T.O will finally have it's very own answer to the petronas towers ! ISN'T THAT A BRILLIANT/
AMAZING/fantabulous/incredible idea ? 2 cn towers connected by a bridge !! just like the petronas towers..2 are always better than one!
I HEART THE CN TOWER(S). CHEERS , HAPPY CANADA DAY !
I hope that was a Cat Stevens reference! I think the new lights look great. The skyline was just way too dull before. This site has more CN Tower pics if you guys are interested. Way to go Toronto! ^^
