Bill Graham Retires, Yellow Ribbon Debate Paralyzes City Council, And Geese Rounded Up For Crime Of Being Geese

punchbowl.jpgBill Graham retires. The MP for Toronto Centre hopes that the by-election is called promptly so that Bob Rae can run for his seat. Torontoist's reaction at losing Bill Graham and getting Bob Rae can mostly be described as a vaguely displeased-sounding "oh, goody."

Ontario to establish $650 million fund to encourage development and manufacture of clean cars and other environmentally friendly products. Most predict that this will go towards new auto parts manufacturing, ensuring us all yet more opportunities to hear Buzz Hargrove say incredibly stupid crap.

City Council debates whether to remove yellow ribbon "support the troops" decals from city vehicles. Well, thank god this vital and important issue is being addressed by City Council rather than something piddling like bike lanes or energy use reduction or any of the six million other things that are actually worth worrying about instead of something stupid like, say, stickers.

Geese rounded up so they don't make a goose-mess in Missisauga and the Toronto Islands. Yeah! Take that, you...temporarily flightless waterfowl, you! Eatin' people's flowers like you owned them or something!

And the L.A. Dodgers whupped the Jays but good last night.

LOL BIL GRAHAM CRACKER!

Hizzoner's comments were ridiculous. We only support the Canadian Forces on a year-to-year basis? "For some" supporting Canadian Forces is unacceptable?

In any case the blame, if someone wants to attribute some, for their presence in Afghanistan under UN mandate is Chretien's, Martin's and Harper's, not theirs. Most of them would probably prefer be back in Canada with their families but they have signed up to go where the government sends them.

"For some" (those who support Rob Ford's ranting) the city's support of Pride was unacceptable and you don't see David Miller retracting the city's support because of a noisy minority - and neither should he have.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.

Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy how's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.Tommy by Rudyard Kipling
