Prix Fixe Your Summer

2007_06_19adjey.jpg Even though the city has voiced disappointment and considered allowing chain restaurants onto the list, Summerlicious has arrived with all its previous perks and kinks.

Starting today and over tomorrow, restaurants participating in Summerlicious will begin taking reservations from Amex holders for the prix fixe menu event held July 6 to 22. Those who are sans Amex will have to wait until June 21 to start calling some of the highly demanded dining destinations. Be prepared to hear busy signals at the likes of Canoe.

Notable newbies to the seasonal event include Coca Tapas and Wine Bar, Maro, Quince, Starfish Oysterbed and Grill, and Globe Bistro. Dependable options for superb experiences that meld delicious food and unwavering service are Canoe, Bymark, Tutti Matti, Auberge de Pommier, and Batifole.

If you're looking for a unique opportunity, Mildred Pierce will be closing their doors on July 31 and has still chosen to be a part of the Summerlicious line-up. Getting away with a delectable $35 dinner on their amazing patio dripping with wisteria will be a memory to savour long after they're gone.

i bet Canoe is already fully booked!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Ugh, Summerlicious.

Somehow I've managed to avoid working in participating restaurants my whole life.

I'd actually like to hear about the experience from the server side since they seem to be the ones with the most to lose.

Operators of restaurants simply downsize the portions, use cheaper ingredients or pack in reservations 1.5 hours at a time. The servers get slammed since everyone is expecting the same impeccable service when they're trying to handle more people for a tip that would be a fraction of what they usually get.

Some places get it right... but for the most part it's can go very wrong.
