WWI Vet Dies, Ontario Green Plan Now Not A Surprise, People Like FC Merchandise

percywilson.jpgCanada's second-last WWI veteran dies at 106. Percy Dwight Wilson (pictured) lied about his age to enlist in the army at the age of fifteen. Is that not amazing? Torontoist thinks that's amazing!

Provincial Grits to announce a green energy plan that will be more aggressive than the federal Tory plan. The announcement is scheduled for June 11th and has already been leaked to the Star, so a reasonable scenario is that the government is confident that the plan does not completely suck (this may seem somewhat pessimistic, but...come on, it's Dalton McGuinty).

Pope Benedict reaffirms Catholic ban on abortion. In other news, Pope still Catho—waitasec, that's technically not other news this time around. In other other news, bears still poop in woods.

Olivia Chow demands an apology from the president-elect of the CMA for asserting that she's had private surgery. Dr. Brian Day responded with "All I can say is the same person that told me before the story came out about Jack Layton told me about her, too. I don't know if it's true"—which is of course why he decided to include it in his speech! A guy told him! Possibly at a bar!

Even though Toronto FC has yet to score a goal in four games, its merchandise is selling like hot cakes. (Do they have hot cakes at Toronto FC games? They should. It could be our thing that adds local colour. You know, like how the Pittsburgh fans wave towels.)

And Daisuke Matsuzaka's second outing against the Blue Jays went better than his first as he and the Red Sox beat the Jays 9-3.

The correct short form for Toronto FC is TFC, not FC.
