The Daily Photoist: rainy evening

Every weekday, we pick an image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It's our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!

Rainy days might prevent photographers from hitting the streets but more often than not we end up with beautiful sets of scenes through drippy windows like this image from Reza Vaziri. The strong colour composition and varying textural quality creates a very moody atmosphere that we absolutely love.

Soft ripples throughout the surface are a bit reminiscent of an abstracted style of encaustic painting that makes use of the organic flow of hot wax. Bubbles and flaws on the surface form small divots as the bottom gathers layers upon layers of flowing wax. Heating up wax already applied to a painting will still give you freedom to manipulate it at will and add character to its surface or easliy smooth it out.
