The Cult Of Chuck Palahniuk

2007_05-22palahniuk.jpgChances are if you are a pervert, an intellectual, or a writer, then you are very familiar with the works of Chuck Palahniuk. The author of "Invisible Monsters", "Choke", and the cult classic "Fight Club" will be in town tonight to sign copies of his new book, "Rant: The Oral History of Buster Casey."

Palahniuk has earned a reputation as being an eccentric, a nihilist, and a genius. Playboy has refused to publish some of his works because they were too disturbing. He is also reportedly working on a "Fight Club" musical starring Trent Reznor and Brad Pitt.

His book signings have only furthered this reputation. He boasts that almost 70 people have fainted at his readings of a story entitled "Guts," about a horrific incident involving masturbation, intestines, and a pool drain. He has been known to give out fake severed limbs, BBQ-scented air fresheners, and steak shaped bath mats to his fans at these events.

At tonight's event, Palahniuk is inviting both males and females to come dressed in a wedding gown in honour of the new book. Those who do dress up will be given a chance to win a very spectacular secret prize from Palahniuk himself. And rumour has it that at a San Francisco event on May 4, Palahniuk launched inflatable deer heads into the crowd.

If you are interested in seeing what kind of debauchery will transpire, head on over to the Indigo at Yonge and Eglinton tonight, Tuesday May 22, at 7:00 p.m.
