Overheard this afternoon on the bus. The TTC driver, while in traffic, is in conversation with a fellow driver. An accident has occurred outside of Downsview station.
Driver: Did you see that? The car was almost ripped in half! He must have had a heart attack…
Fellow Driver: Maybe he was on his cell phone.
Driver: By the way, can you hear my latest entertainment device? They’re getting really strict about this stuff. It’s top of the line. (Pulls out earpiece and shows fellow driver.)

Did that really happen?
If it did my line of dislike for the staff of the TTC is raised once again.
It absolutely did.
Wow Kate what a harsh thing to say, just because you have or have heard of a few bad things at the TTC I think saying "my line of dislike for the staff of the TTC is raised once again" is far out of line. I ride the TTC at least twice a day everyday of the month. I maybe see 1-2 bad things done by staff (not just drivers) happen a month. I would have to say that I have a better experience on the TTC than I do at any other business I deal with, including the one I work at. I think we as Torontonians need to suck it up and realize that the Staff at the TTC are a good bunch of people, that have a few bad apples that work there (but what company doesn't?) and also realize that they are only humans, and sometimes do make mistakes. I'm very surprised that more of the staff haven't gone bad because of comments like yours.... I'm a good worker with a great attitude at work, but if I worked for the TTC, and had to read what people say about the TTC staff all the time, your dislike for me would be great. Next time you get on a bus, streetcar or see a collector, smile at them, ask them how day is, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at their response.
I have ridden the TTC for over 20 years and I can tell you for a fact that the customer service of their employees is quickly declining.
It is not one or two bad apples, more like it is one or two good apples and the rest a spoiled bunch. I have sworn off TTC as much as possible now, I bought a motorcycle, I ride a bicycle, I walk and now for winter - a bicycle with two linked front ends to ride with stability in snow.
I have seen TTC operators driving while on the cellphone, stop for pizza while leaving 25 PAYING customers sitting on the vehicle with no explanation or courtesy extended to them, smelt the lingering stench of cigarette smoke from the oerator smoking on the vehicle while it was inthe loop and been screamed at and treated rudely by TTC employees for no reason other than their poor disposition.
The problem, Kevin, is that Torontonians suck it up too mcuh and we have allowed the TTC, among other things, to deteriorate.
