You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby

Unlike our hetero male friends, a lot of women just don’t get aroused by mainstream porn. You know, the kind where silicone-padded girls are used as receptacles for bodily fluids? Thankfully, there is a growing market for porn for women by women, which has been dubbed “feminist porn.”
For porn to be considered feminist, three criteria must be fulfilled. First is that the women are shown experiencing real pleasure and real orgasms. Secondly, women should have a major role in the creative process of the production. Third: the work should feature a variety of female sexual expression, whether it be race, orientation or freaky-deaky fetish preferences.
In honour of sex-positive feminism, Good For Her is hosting the second annual Feminist Porn Awards this Friday at the Gladstone. Special guests include Anna Span, Shine Louise Houston, Simone Valentine, and Peggy Comstock. The evening will feature performances, screenings, burlesque and the presentation of awards like “Fiercest Female Orgasm” and “Hottest Anal Adventure”.
Does that turn you on?
The Feminist Porn Awards will be held on Friday June 1 2007 at 8 p.m. at the Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen Street West. Tickets are $15 advance, $18 door.

Is that photo from Dirt Devils VIII: Dusty Busties, Vol. 2? Or is it from Rughooker 3: Textile Tatas? I can’t quite tell.

I +recommended the first draft of this post. Now I feel cheated.

    Thanks Jane Finch.
The editors felt it was a bit NSFW, so we had to tone it down to make sure everyone could still read Torontoist on the job.

I find it interesting and a bit amusing that the Feminist Porn Awards do not consider the efforts of online for women porn sites. I have marketed sites like sssh dot com for over 10 years and we make a booming business. There are a few other online porn for women sites made by women for women. They are even producing movies.
The reason its even worse that you leave them out is that these sites are incredibly inventive and imaginative in finding all round content (beyond movies and pictures) to entertain and excite women. I challenge those of you that are hosting such awards to look into the multidimensional websites on the net that ARE feminist porn.
