This Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., you can enjoy the inaugural weekend of the Don Valley Brick Works Farmers Market. Many of your favorite vendors from Toronto's other organic farmers markets will be there, including Chocosol, who might just let you ride their bicycle powered chocolate blender. You can also buy your weekly loaf from St. John's Bakery or Alli's bread, and pick up your spring veggies from several local organic farms. Once you've made all your purchases, you can munch on some food courtesy of Jamie Kennedy's Kitchens, and enjoy a cup of Merchants of Green Coffee joe.

This new market was put together by Evergreen, the steward of the Brick Works site since 1997, who is working to preserve the industrial and architectural character, while at the same time protecting wildlife, improving the habitat, and instilling a sense of community. Stay tuned for more fun, eco-friendly and nutritious events throughout the summer like the Singing Frogs Nature Walk in June, Native Plant Butterfly Gardening in July, and Farm to Fork Local Food Celebration in August. Improving access to the site is also a priority for Evergreen, and to that end they have set up a shuttle bus service between Broadview station and the Brick Works every 30 minutes from 9:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. You can also catch a shuttle from the Loblaws at Bayview/Moore every 15 minutes. Starting June 2, the farmers market will operate on Saturdays only until October 27, and the hours (for market and shuttle) change to 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Don't forget your basket!
