Good Toronto Hunting

fridges2.jpgAs part of Toronto's glorious annual photography festival, CONTACT, the Drake Hotel is hosting a photo scavenger hunt every weekend in May, and registration is open now.

Dubbed Shoot Toronto and hosted by the globe-trotting Shoot Experience, participants get clues at the start of the event (this year's theme is "water"), and spend the rest of their day exploring Queen Street "deciphering and taking photographs as answers." After they're done, teams head back to the Drake to mingle, drink, look at other teams' shots, and find out the judges' choices. Prizes for the best shots include cameras, maps, and photography gear.

Fortunately, how good teams are at wielding a camera is second to their "creativity, community interaction and emotional input." So, if you have lots of good ideas, like talking to people, and enjoy being emotionally drained, this just might be the event for you.

For $25 per person, teams (of up to four people) can sign up now on Shoot Experience's website. The hunt takes place on Saturday May 5, and every Sunday for the rest of the month of May (6, 13, 20, and 27). Marc Lostracco and yours truly will be representing Torontoist on the panel of judges on May 13 27, and we will gladly accept bribes.

Photo from Shoot Brixton courtesy of Shoot Experience. The theme was "music," and the clue was "Reggae superstar Jimmy Cliff starred in Jamaica's first feature film making its debut here in 1973." The correct answer is ABC/Palladium Brixton Hill—also known as The Fridge. Nice.

I entered this in Notting Hill, London and had a great time. Its fun to get to know a corner of your city better and met likeminded people too.

We had a day of sunshine, a couple of comfort breaks for a pint or two, so all in all a great day out. The photos are now gracing the wall of our studio flat for all to see.

Wish I could join you in the TO event, happy snapping!
