The good news: tonight, there are three great literary events happening in our fair city. The bad news: you’re going to have to choose.

Mark Truscott’s Test Reading Series presents Reg Johanson and Jordan Scott at Mercer Union, A Centre for Contemporary Art (37 Lisgar Street) tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Reg Johanson has traveled from East Vancouver for tonight’s performance. His first book, Courage, My Love was published by Line Books last year. Reg’s critical work examines a wide range of fascinating topics: Standard English as a classist and racializing disciplinary practice, the political economy of "cheating" and plagiarism, "the radical" in poetry, and global urbanization. He teaches composition and literature at Capilano College.

Jordan Scott, also hailing from points westward, now lives in Toronto. His first book of poetry, Silt (New Star Books), was nominated for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. His second of poetry, blert, explores the poetics of the stutter and will be published by Coach House Books.

Over at This Is Not A Reading Series (The Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen Street West, 7:00 p.m.), another Coach House author is launching a new book that is creating some buzz. There will be banjos! Sean Dixon’s novel, The Girls Who Saw Everything, will be celebrated with music by its author (vocals, banjo), Ann Marie MacDonald (vocals), Jonathan Garfinkle (vocals, guitar), Russell Smith (DJ), RM Vaughan (triangle), Tanya Chapman (vocals, guitar), Michelle Girouard (vocals, guitar), and Eliza-Jane Scott (vocals, guitar).

Sean Dixon is a Toronto writer and actor who has written numerous works for theatre, including Billy Nothin’, Sam’s Last Dance, and The Painting. He helped found the innovative Winnipeg theatre company PRIMUS and is Playwright-out-of-Residence for Victoria’s Theatre SKAM. He has previously published a play collection, AWOL, with Coach House Books.

Last but not least, Atom Egoyan interviews Michael Ondaatje about his new novel, Divisadero. The evening also includes a reading by the author and a book signing, and begins at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Toronto’s MacMillan Theatre (80 Queens Park Circle). Tickets are five dollars.
