Consumerism for the Environment

4_24_2007leafwater.jpgIn a time when Al Gore is predicting that global warming is the coming of the apocalypse, people are looking for creative ways to maintain a sustainable ecosystem without giving up their consumerist lifestyles. Toronto’s first Green Living Show will inspire ways to do just that.

The Green Living Show is this weekend, April 27-29, at the Direct Energy Centre at the Exhibition grounds. It boasts eco-fashion shows, organic cooking demonstrations, a wildflower garden, the “Art of Nature” exhibit, free bicycle tune-ups, and gardening, body detox, and green romance seminars. Be sure to hug the over nine metres tall White Pine for a photo-op, explore the model sustainable condo, and test drive fuel-efficient cars. In keeping with the theme of consumerism for the environment, you can buy organic cotton and soy-based clothing, locally grown organic produce, and eco-friendly sex toys.

Featured speakers include Gill Deacon of The Gill Deacon Show, astronaut and environmentalist Roberta Bondar, and Margaret Atwood showcasing her LongPen, which David Suzuki, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and George Monbiot will use for book signings. Prophet Gore will be back in Toronto to speak at GLS, but separate tickets to his presentation are already sold out (surprise, surprise).

Tickets are only $10 per adult at the door, and $9 if you buy online. For an even greater discount, Torontoist has three 2-for-1 passes to the Green Living Show to give away. To win a pass, use the entry form below to submit your full name, e-mail address, and a way that you are living green. We’ll select the most creative entries. Contest closes this Tuesday at noon.
