Dance Music This Weekend: Rainy Nights Edition

2007_04_27Temple.jpg

While last weekend saw a number of free, outdoor parties in various legal and quasi-legal locations in the city, the springtime rain has washed out similar aspirations this weekend. No matter, for on these next nights Toronto's underground has prepared a number of special treats for our ears:

Tonight at Crosstown, Montrealer Akufen brings his glitchy, techy microbeats to Hogtown for some raw audiophile action at what is increasingly becoming the city's showcase of serious electronic talent. The 19+ Sumkidz and Blue Dot event also features Spooloops and Mike Lambert. Doors 10 p.m., $15 before midnight, $20 after.

On the trancier, break-ier side of things, Bassteasers brings you Lunar Bass at the Opium Lounge, featuring Boxing Kangaroo, Elixir, Monophonic and more. Opium Lounge, 222 Richmond St. Tickets $15 at the door. 19+

Saturday night brings the city a special event that has been five years in the making. Robotpilot and Airhead are bringing Luna-C to Toronto for what should be worlds more epic than his last Canadian appearance (which ended abruptly with the Montréal police telling us partiers there weren't enough fire escapes!) Also featuring Ruffage, Saskrotch, Virus, Tyco and more. In what is probably the biggest mix of old school hardcore and dubstep/grime this city has even seen, Temple of Dreams pushes the limits of the future with the sounds of the past. Vida Lounge, 1345 St. Clair Ave. W @ Lansdowne. Tickets $20 in advance. All ages.

I'm so excited for this party.

Luna-C is hands down my favourite dj/producer in the world.

Well, we all know where I'll be this weekend.

Expect some nifty Temple of Dreams photos up within 24 hours of the event.

I heard about that temple of dreams party! it's going to be amazing, i really want to go.

Both events look stellar... perhaps I'll check them out

I love reading your articles, the underground scene sounds awesome! Maybe one day I'll meet you at one of the events!!
peace!

And don't forget that Temple of Dreams features awesome original day-glo deco by yours truly! ;)

(bigupyoself?)

Saskrotch is going to be fucking amazing! Ever since I heard his Nintendo Breakz Volume One release, i've been wanting to see him play his brand of 8bit breakcore madness live. This will also be my first time hearing Luna-C live, a two hour extended set which is sure to be full of win and completely devoid of fail.

Eeeep! I'm so excited for tomorrow's party! TRIP! will be there in full swing, too! Such amazing djs and producers all in one place!!!
*dances around*

This was every bit a rave! Very fantastic and, as usual, worth the three hour cross-border trek to Toronto.
