Jean Chrétien is Alive and Well and Crashing in Toronto

Remember Jean Chrétien? We haven't heard much about the former prime minister in some time (dude's been off the map ever since Paul Martin forced him off it). Well, Mizalaina of the Toronto LiveJournal community spotted Chrétien earlier today in downtown Toronto, and has one hell of a story to go along with it:
So an hour ago I'm walking north along York St. I hear a crash ahead of me and see a van drive up onto the sidewalk, smashing into the wall beside 145 King West. I dash up to see the van teetering two feet in the air, and that two other cars were involved: a minivan or SUV or something, and a black car with government license plates. Apparently, from what I could tell from the conversation around me, the driver of the van was disabled and couldn't get out. The drivers of the other cars were standing around, talking on their cell phones.
I went down the ramp to get my car. As I drove to the top of the ramp, I saw the back door of the government car open. Out stepped... Jean Chretien. I swear.
It sounds as if Jean and the other drivers were shaken up but are doing alright. All we have to do now is see how long it takes Royal Canadian Air Farce to bring back his character to talk about how he's not "poopular" anymore or something. That'd be hilarious.
Photo of Chrétien from the 1996 Leader's Summit from the Munk Centre's G8 website, shamelessly manipulated by David Topping for extra Chrétien action. Thanks to Torontoist's own Karen Whaley for the tip.

If you saw the accident, did you see a really tall guy wearing a blazer and carrying a laptop bag jump for his life when the van almost hit him... that was me! I'm doing fine now, luckily when I heard the bang I stopped in my tracks. Had I continued to walk I have to doubt in my mind I would have been pinned against the wall and the van.
Anywho, I thought it was pretty cool to see Mr. Chretien and his wife and glad to see they were ok.
is that bill clinton, or just someone that looks like him?
That's Clinton alright. By the looks of it, he and Chrétien seem to be making some sort of psychic connection.
I'm also totally down with the cook. Any country with a chef as commander in chief can invade my country any day. Bring on the long range tactical fromage!
Long range tactical fromage. Awesome.
I work @ 100 wellington. I didnt see the crash but I did see the aftermath. I was going up York to go to the subway and I saw Jean Chretien get out of the car, he shook hands with the other driver while they were all trying to figure out what to do with the guy in the van. My friends didnt beleive me but its good to know someone else saw this. And the debris from the crash was only cleaned up today... thats toronto for ya I guess.
