Zombie Musical Shuffles Back; Hungry for Audience

evildead_brainmeal.jpg

Toronto theatre crowds like to think of themselves as pretty brainy; quick to criticize stiff performances and dead box office sales, but if you're of the lowbrow type, then wait no morgue: Evil Dead: The Musical has risen again for another run—or slow walk—at the Diesel Playhouse.

When it opened originally in our fair city, the musical (co-directed by Canada's Christopher Bond and Tony Award-winner and Buffy alum Hinton Battle) was expected to be eaten alive by reviewers, but audiences advanced in droves. The cult film adaptation was endorsed by both Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, and also recently enjoyed a worm reception off-Broadway in New York.

With lyrics by George Reinblatt and music by Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond, Melissa Morris and George Reinblatt, the audience will be twitching to such gems as "Blew That Bitch Away" and "Ode to an Accidental Stabbing." And who could forget that old chestnut, "All the Men in My Life (Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons)"? It's enough to make you wanna bite the head off a parakeet, really.

The most delicious part is that the first 100 tickets are being given away for only a buck at the Diesel Playhouse on Saturday, March 24th, brain or shine (56 Blue Jays Way). The tickets are for the first performance on May 1 and are limited to one per body.

Performances run through June 23, so the theatre will be appropriately refrigerated. Tickets range from $17.50–$49 and ticketholders sitting in the splatter zone should expect a good, ol' fashioned bloodbath. Purchase online at www.evildeadthemusical.com, or call 416-971-5656 to order. Operators are sloughing by.
