Good news for Mayor David Miller—there's one place in the GTA where he can hang without being mobbed by crazed fans. According to a survey by the Scarborough Civic Action Network, more than a third of Scarboroughites don't know who the mayor is, and only a quarter know the name of their councillor.
Ward 38 Councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker, possibly dismayed by his lacklustre Q-Score, characterized this lack of civic-mindedness as "irresponsible and lazy." SCAN co-chair Vaijanti Chari defended those surveyed by pointing out that many have English as a second language, and are too busy working multiple jobs to spend their time contemplating the intricacies of municipal politics.
There's no word on whether another survey will be undertaken to determine how many city councillors know what Scarborough is.

I live in Toronto itself, and though I can name the mayor, I certainly can't name off the top of my head my councillor...let alone my actual ward number...*shrugs*
While i'm a supporter of the mayor, we can look at this from another perspective and ask: How often has the mayor visited Scarborough? Perhaps a few more appearances would make the difference.
