Tara Spencer-Nairn in Lush

Corner Gas may not be everybody's cup of Ruby coffee, but we've always been big fans of Tara Spencer-Nairn, better known to Canadians these days as Officer Karen Pelly. Though "Karen" has a large stable of drooling fans with cop kinks, the spring issue of Lush brings us Spencer-Nairn out of uniform and as fashion-hot as a smoking Glock 22.

The shoot was photographed by Paul Wright, who also captured Hilary Duff for the cover of the winter issue. Lush Editor Mahfud Ibrahim was the Creative Director of the session; styling was by Fashion Editor and television personality Peter Papapetrou.

The Toronto-based, Montréal-born actor is also known for her roles in Rub & Tug, New Waterford Girl and as Wayne Gretzky's sister in Waking Up Wally, but also to sci-fi fans of Wishmaster 4 and ReGenesis.

As for Corner Gas, the show just secured a distro deal with U.S. superstation WGN and is now licensed in 26 countries. It's also still funnier than most U.S. sitcoms (why is According To Jim still on? The War At Home anyone? Two and a Half Men?! Gah! I rest my case, haters).

There's no denying Spencer-Nairn's comedic talents, but next we'd like to see her slipping into something a little more physical—at the risk of law enforcement stereotyping, perhaps as a CTU agent on 24 like Little Mosque's Carlo Rota or in a high-action female buddy-cop flick à la Lethal Weapon.

Wayne Gretzky's Sister! In my favourite book as a kid, Gordan Korman's Loosing Joe's Place three teenagers spend a summer in Toronto at one of their brother's bachelor apartment. They have these great nicknames for all the people in the building, one of which is "Wayne Gretzky's Sister."

Does Wayne Gretzky even have a sister?

Kim is a couple of years younger than Wayne. The TV movie Waking Up Wally (second only to Mother, May I Sleep With Danger? as worst TV movie title ever) was about Walter Gretzky's stroke in 1991. It's actually re-airing on CBC on Monday at 8 p.m.

If you wanna see where the Corner Gas gas station/restaurant set is located, it's on this blank patch of land (Google Maps). The grain elevator that says "Dog River" in the show is visible just south of it along the road and train tracks.
