Mayors Want Money, Falling Ice Ain't Funny, Eviction Numbers Not so Sunny

2007_03_05_CNtower.jpg Police have closed the Gardiner Expressway after baseball-sized chunks of ice began flying off the CN Tower. Flying chunks of ice? Closing the Gardiner? Good ol' Mel would've just brought in the army and called a wrap on the day.

Power has finally been restored to homes affected by last Thursday's ice storm. The only people who could possibly still be without power are those who have failed to notify Toronto Hydro, a spokesman said. So if you, uh, are still in complete darkness and seriously considering eating the cat, you might want to give them a shout. Just a thought.

Montreal Mayor, Gérald Tremblay, along with our pal Mayor David Miller, will be asking Ottawa for some transit cash today. If the Conservative government really wants to back up their promise to focus on environmental issues, this would be a great start.

Toronto landlords are, for the second year in a row, evicting residents in record numbers. We have to wonder if building more affordable, low-income housing just might bring those numbers back down.

The Leafs lost 3-1 to the Sabres over the weekend. But, hey, Tucker is back!

The horrible horrible rerouted mess of traffic this morning HAS to be evidence to everyone that closing the Gardiner for any type of construction/burial would be the worst mistake the city could make.

And if you don't agree, hey, I invite you to join me on the commute back into the city this evening. Mack sure to pack a dinner!

Falling ice may not be funny, but the "injuries" sustained by this man from getting hit are:

I've had worse shaving cuts! His injury claims sound like he's setting the stage for a frivolous lawsuit.

So, how would you be reading this if you have no power?

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Reminds me of when I call Rogers for the millionth time about my internet being down and the recording on the phone recommends that I check online for service outages. By the way, are they ever not experiencing an unusually high volume of calls despite how allegedly important my call is to them?

Marc, thats when you email me and I see what I can do for you. I work there, remember?

Also, how come we haven't seen any pictures of this alleged sheet of ice hanging off the tower? Metro this morning said it was 50m Tall and 6m wide!

E190: Isn't the irony delicious?

brokenengine: I'm not sure if it was the same supposed sheet of ice, but CTV's evening newscast showed a pretty nasty sheet of ice coming off the tower. I don't know if it was 50m tall or anything, but it looked pretty dangerous nonetheless.
