Balfour Books is one of the city's best used book stores. It's bright, well-stocked, and, best of all, it's open until 11 every night. With a good sized fiction section at the back of the store, plus tons of books on art and cultural theory, it's easy to spend an hour or more browsing through the shelves. Torontoist loves to load up on titles here and then head across the street to The Dip to nurse a Cappuccino Corretto while flipping through our purchases.
Then, each spring, something magical happens. Just as the winter doldrums seem to be dragging on a little bit longer than they should, Balfour decides to brighten up the world by selling all of it's books at half-price. In the past, the sale has lasted for four days, but this year they've extended the sale for a full week. It's enough to lift any of us out of our bout of seasonal affective disorder and with all the money we save, it's easy to justify ordering one of The Dip's Sicilian Crepes to enjoy with our coffee.
Balfour Books is located at 601 College Street, at Clinton. They're open daily from noon until 11 p.m., and you can give 'em a call at 416-531-9911. Sale ends Monday the 19th.

One of the best places to find cool books in the city, hands down.
I was there yesterday with another of the Torontoist staffers. I contributed to the economy, and like the post says, when over to the Dip for a drink afterwards. Adam Giambrone was there.
A friend and I were in TO last summer, we wandered down to College St. (original intention was to see Alex Lifeson's, The Orbit Room, (lifelong Rush fan) but it was sunday and closed) and lo and behold, we wandered into the Italian Fest...stopped into Balfour, nice store, nice people...cool dog.
I'd love to get up there for this. Either way, I'm definitely going to hit up this store again.
Life would be so much easier if I could win the lottery or just inherit a ton of money so I could just move to TO.
Hey just a correction here from Balfour--
The sale actually is on until next Monday, the 19th.
Cheers!
Thanks. Your change has been reflected in the story above. (The original piece stated that the sale ended Friday.)
