Adam Vaughan—Everywhere

2007_03_27VAUGHN.jpgWhen we last tuned in, Adam Vaughan had just quit his job as CityTV’s Political Reporter to run for City Council. He won and now represents Ward 20.
Now he’s back on television with a new monthly version of his old show, Hour Town on CP24. As the title suggests, it’s an hour-long program about the goings on at City Hall. It’s also a call-in show, so you can expect to hear lively debates about homeless shelters in the club district and transit proposals. You will probably also have to listen to cranks calling in to complain about how their neighbours built a shed without a permit.
Hour Town debuts tonight at 9 p.m. on CP24. To get your questions or comments on air, call (416) 872-2724 or 1-888-863-2724, faxing 416-596-6397 and/or email hourtown@citynews.ca.

Hour Town is not new though — it’s the show he used to do weekly. It was one of the best things CP24 did. Lots of community people on it, not many cranks.

Apparently Gord Perks also has his show, Earth Matters, back on CP24 as well.
…I wonder if City will find it in their heart to create a new show for every rookie councillor ;-)

not that community participation is a bad thing, but isn’t it unfair that these media types, when elected to municipal office, get to keep exploiting their media ties? how about the other councillors and their agendas?

Though the program may be returning, it’s being marketed as new by CHUM: http://www.chumlimited.com/press/releasetelevision.asp?stationID=27&pressID=2346

How about a show co-hosted by Rob Ford and Giorgio Mammoliti? I’d get cable just to see that.

Three more years to Vaughan’s mayoral campaign launch? Nice to have some CityTV time to match Hizzoner’s show while he’s waiting I suppose.

    Councillor/City TV host?
    I find this problematic.
Adam, you won the election. Stop campaigning and start getting solutions in place.

I can’t wait for the Steve Harper show, where he and his Conservative buddies punk Stephane Dion.

This guy scares me almost as much as David Miller. His father, Colin, had more character in his toenail clippings that Adam will have if he lives to 150.
Lets just hope he isn’t in office long enough to do any real damage. Bruce almighty, seems like only yesterday that we finally purged ourselves of Jack Layton and his little Chow Chow.

You can see the same end result every week on WWE RAW.

I think it would have been problematic if Adam continued the show during the campaign; now that he’s elected, the re-emergence of Hour Town exemplifies his care for community. If a councillor without a background in journalism announced a show with the same format, she’d be a hero.
Adam gave many local activists (and artists–including myself) their first shots at getting their work to the public. You’re right, Kevin: often it is who you know, but Adam gave the floor to unknowns. In his line of work, that takes courage.
