The Daily Photoist: Going Through Winter

Each weekday morning, we pick a recent image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It’s our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!

Yesterday morning, Toronto saw some of the largest snowflakes we’ve ever seen! Torontoist Flickr pool contributor DanielN seized the opportunity to capture the moment in this shot, where the pop of red in the umbrella really makes the image stand out and conveys just how big those flakes were. Ladies — hope you were wearing your industrial strength waterproof mascara, or chances are pretty good that you walked into work looking like a raccoon if you were travelling through this!
Be sure to have a look at the rest of Daniel’s stream — he has an excellent eye for composition, as well as light and shadow. He also has the coolest bed-jumping set, where he takes photos of himself “in flight” just before departing for and returning from trips abroad.

Thanks — apparently my brain ‘ceased’ to function this morning. :)

Carrie, nice shot. You’ve got the eye.
I just bought a Nikon D70S. I’m still going through the manual. I’m a film relic, getting back into it and the digital thang. Shot a few shots, nice camera.
If I can get some shots that are half as good as your’s, I’ll be happy. Love your’ website.

OK, duh, Carrie didn’t take this particular shot. I’m an idiot (hey, I’m at work).
    Still a cool shot.
Carrie is still a great photographer.
There, I’d say I handled that rather nicely, wot!

Sorry, Steve-o…with all due respect, I think you showed a tiny bit of lack of appreciation to the outstanding work of Daniel in your (all too) gushing praise of Carrie after you realized the error in photo accreditation.
Don’t get me wrong, Carrie is a talented artist in her own right, but it came across as somewhat of a schoolboy crush in your posting,eh?
…just one man’s opinion ( that and $1.79 will get you a Lg. coffee from Tim’s).
    Peace.

Heh. I *wish* I took this photo…I love it (I’m a total sucker for umbrella shots). Daniel’s work is awesome…hope you took some time to look through his flickr stream. :)

Touche’ ,Michael. I did look at the rest of Daniel’s work on flickr (along with adding him as a contact so I can see future stuff he does) and he is an extremely talented photographer. I mistook it for Carrie’s because she posted it and it looked like soomething she could, and would, shoot.
I have a schoolboy crush on Carrie, Marc, Topping, (not like that, guys:-) Torontoist, BlogTo, “Kill the Goat” and just about anyone else who shows amazing talent in photography, music, or writing and is from Toronto because it’s what I want to do and where I want to live. And besides, my biggest schoolboy crush right now is Emily Haines: -)
