Each weekday morning, we pick a recent image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It's our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!
Some photographers view Photoshop manipulation -- especially when an image is as heavily distorted as the one above -- as a sort of cheating. (And there's certainly a lot of terrible Photoshop work out there to support this argument... ) But we think that Photoshop, like any tool, can be used for both evil AND good.
In the case of this grungy image by Torontoist Flickr member JaMmCat (Air`leth Aodhfin), the Photoshop manipulations give this photo a cool, grimy, pulp-fiction edge -- further enhanced by the Bukowski book and the JD. This one image is part of a larger "Guinevere" series by the photographer. Worth checking out.

I have to disagree. If anything, the Bukowski and Jack Daniels make this picture look contrived.
I didn't know Anna Nicole read Bukowski (ooh, too soon! Too soon!).
Though it may appear contrived, I assure you that she was, in fact, reading Bukowski, and she certainly was drinking Jack Daniels.
During this shoot, the model was actually getting increasingly more drunk.
I actually did go out and buy the booze before shooting, and while the intoxicated stupor was anticipated, the results of it were not.
I did take not of the booze a Buk, though, when I took the picture.
The only thing contrived in this shot is the smeared makeup... and, as an afterthought, the bits of editing. :)
Damn, that is the ugliest "photo" I have ever seen.
Well. It looks as if the above peanut gallery member has not grasped the over all concept of the entire set. It was not meant to be glamorous, or a pretty bout of eloquence in pixels.
If you, are under the impression that it is an exceptionally ugly photo, well then the photographer has rightly done his job - With bells on it.
i don't know whats worse: gary campbell's photo picks or his comments about them.
