Snow Day, Skeletons/Wal-Mart Greeters/Bon Cops/American Homosexuals Need Love Too

Hey, it's snowing. Crazy!

A tangled web of relationship intrigue baffles the investigators of a Markham double homicide. After reading this article three times, I still can't figure out who was married to who and who was having what affairs...

2007_02_14Skeletons.jpg...and on that note, Happy Valentine's Day. With a similarly macabre look at love, a late Neolithic couple found buried together outside of Mantua will not be separated because, well, they're just too adorable. Even for skeletons. Awwwww.

The Genie Awards: Bon Cop Bad Cop and The Rocket took home top prizes. Because Canada didn't make any other movies this year.

A Wal-Mart greeter in Vaughn got punched in the face. That sucks.

GuluWalk, a grassroots Toronto aid agency raised $500,000 for child war victims, and won an award for their efforts.

Gay listeners of San Francisco's Energy 92.7 FM are eligible to win an all-expenses paid trip to Toronto for the Big Gay Wedding of their dreams. Councillor Kyle Rae is appearing on the "Fernando and Greg" morning show today to promote the contest and Toronto gay tourism.

So, about the walmart greeter..

Rowlandson said stealing baby products – particularly food – happens in Vaughan on a monthly basis. [...] "People aren't stealing the food for themselves, they're stealing it so they can sell it for cash so they can support their habits," Rowlandson said.

This is an interesting claim. If people are trying to steal something they can just resell, why baby food? Surely there are things with a lower weight/payoff ratio?

If you're a regular reader of Behind The Counter, a blog by a Wal-Mart customer service employee, you soon find that Wal-Mart scams are practically a sport. Wal-Mart knows all about it too, but when it comes to internal politics, store managers and retaining customers, they let a staggering amount slide.

From what I gather from Behind The Counter, I'm thinking they stole it so they could return it to Wal-Mart for a refund -- the path of least resistance.

Does that image of the skeletons remind anyone else of the final scene of Rossellini's Voyage in Italy?

"Does that image of the skeletons remind anyone else of the final scene of Rossellini's Voyage in Italy?"

Or, on a more pop media note, does anyone else remember this as the final scene of at least one of the film versions of Th Hunchback of Notre Dame"?
