Ice Ice Broadview

2007_2_9WhenTTCFreezesOver.jpg

Daniel Quinn of Searching for Tao 4349.9 Kilometres From Home sent us the above image. He tells us: "I shot this at Broadview station on my way to work this morning. The ceiling is coming apart there and in a combination between the leaky roof and frozen weather, we're getting giganimous icicles."

Poor old Broadview. The escalator goes out of service every week, half of the upper part of the station has been boarded up for months, there's some giant construction project going on outside with no signs of completion... and now this. :(

can you name a station that isn't falling apart?
I go to St patrick's station and i think: can't someone please powerwash this mess? there's mold and dirt and foodstains on the TUNNEL walls.
isn't it great that the TTC's spending money to renovate the Museum station (in a tacky Egyptian theme, no less)?
JST BUY A FUCKING POWER WASHER FROM HOME DEPOT FOR $140 AND WASH ST PATRICK'S WALLS, FOR FUCK'S SAKE!

I had two shots of this on my blog as well.

I think that the leak and the construction are connected and to be fair to the TTC they are actually fixing this leak - note the pencil lines on the concrete in the photo. Some concrete has already been chipped away and I assume more will go (to the lines?) and then it will get fixed. Of course it WILL take months - as EB says, the work at Broadview has gone on for ages, at least two years, and seems to involve only one or two people working at a time!

Can't they get that Holmes on Homes guy on the case?

To the TTC's credit, they powerwashed Osgoode Station a number of months ago, revealing some pale yellow slats (I seriously doubt it was a new paint job).

Of course, they HADN'T washed it for so long I didn't even know that Osgoode WASN'T supposed to be dark, murky brown. I can't remember a time Osgoode bore any traces of that margarine yellow, and I've been riding the TTC regularly for over four years now. Ewww.

I do take a very early morning streetcar ... and the vast majority of cars are actually very clean by that time of the day -- tidied, but also washed -- so I'm impressed they even try there, considering how futile it must seem, especially in the dead of winter and the constant flow of filthy, wet boots. It'd be pretty easy just to let things stay encrusted with salt and mud.
