The Daily Photoist: How to babyproof a concrete loft

Each weekday morning, we pick a recent image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It’s our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!

There’s a moment in your life when all of a sudden everyone you know is having a baby, or talking about babies, or feeling parental pressure to procreate. It seemed to be an conversation topic that fills the void left post-Christmas.
This image by Toronto photographer viaveg (Nancy) had us laughing and laughing. The incredibly cute child, the photo taken from his vantage point and the off-kilter angle shows off a perfect combination of parental wariness and baby curiosity. It also points to the challenges of being young and urban AND a parent. Baby-proofing a loft is not an easy thing when there are no doors, no carpets, and plenty of places to cause mischief.
And who doesn’t want to impress a healthy love of bubble wrap in young children? As you get older, popping those bubbles is one of the few great joys that last a lifetime.

That is just… wow… maybe there’s something to this whole “procreation” thing you speak of.

And let’s not forget how brilliant it is of these concrete dwelling people to get their little ones putting plastic bags on their heads from a young age. Safety first, huh?

Wasn’t there supposed to be a kitten with this baby?!
    Nicely done.

my daughter says “that is a super duper crazy hat”. She wants one too, but admits she would “NOT be able to stop the popping”. She’s five. Totally marketable to that demographic.

That shot belongs on Cute Overload! Sit that kid in a box of packing peanuts and send him over so I can pop his head while watching TV. Asian babies have the market cornered on excessive cuteness.
    Swanky place, by the way.

Yet another post glorifying babies? You aren’t New York! :D
It took me a few minutes to even recognize the hat was made of bubble wrap.

Thanks for the daily pick, Torontoist! Jill, procreation is verrrry bad if you are fond of something I recall from a former life…SLEEP. Tommy, don’t fret, no actual babies were harmed in the making of this photograph…bubblehat was just a prop ;-)
