The Daily Photoist: cute couple skating 2

Each weekday morning, we pick a recent image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It's our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!

The photo above, by Torontoist Flickr Pool member Atilla Soylu, jumped right off the page for us. A few Torontoisters went skating at City Hall recently -- after a decade away from the blades -- and this image perfectly summed up our feelings of joy and trepidation. We love the awkward pose of the figure in white and the blurs of motion as more experienced skaters rush past. Even though we continue to be snow-less, visiting a rink is a great way to introduce "winter" in your photography.

(Also, Torontoist heartily endorses skating as an extremely fun date that more-or-less forces you to hold hands, allowing you to skip the awkward first hand-holding moment of new love. At Nathan Phillips Square, skating is free. No skates? Rent a pair for $9. See -- it's a cheap date, too.)

Reason #57.
How fun. And if I may quote the 80's, Mr. Henry Lee Summer, "I wish I had a girl who looked like that"....or should I say, "I wish I had a girl who could skate like that".

Yea - I sat at Nathan Philips Sq one night a month ago, chowing down on some street meat, thinking next first date I go on will be there. Here's to hoping that happens before the ice melts again.

Aw, that's adorable, but exposing skin in skating weather?

Girls.
