McGuinty Gives Wychwood $3 Million, A Refreshing New Archbishop, HPV Is A Real Bad Rap

At Bathurst and St. Clair West, the abandoned Wychwood TTC streetcar repair barns are soon to be revitalized, and the provincial government is investing $3 million in the project. The Green Art Barns will be a community arts and environmental centre with studios, a gallery, a greenhouse and workspace for local not-for-profit groups. Go take a look at the old carhouse before it’s all fixed up, as it is highly photogenic.
The new archbishop of Toronto was installed yesterday at St. Michael’s Cathedral, where he carried out his first public address. Archbishop Tom Collins calls for unselfish living, 2 shots of gin, 1oz lemon juice, a drizzle of sugar syrup and a splash of club soda to be poured into a highball glass and garnished with a sprig of mint.
Today in Hydro: Last night, a power blip dimmed lights, reset traffic lights and stalled factory production after a capacitor bank failed in Etobicoke. Speaking of power, Ontario Energy Minister Dwight Duncan is challenging the federal government to build an east-west power grid which would deliver clean hydroelectric energy from Manitoba and Quebec to Ontario. Do you remember how they used to fix the power grid in Sim City? Flashing lightning bolts, power line tool, clicka clicka, done. What’s the problem here?
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization is recommending the vaccination of girls aged 9-14 for human papilloma virus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer and genital warts. It’ll be just like grade 6 when we had to get the Hepatitis B vaccine…and had to watch that “Hepatitis B is a real bad rap” music video beforehand. Does anyone have a copy of that?

Some interesting stuff in the Duncan link. The Liberals have totally blown the coal fired power file and are now looking to Manitoba and Quebec. There’s only one small problem.
Ontario is already in danger of missing a deadline to bring extra transmission lines to Bruce for the nuclear station and for the wind farms up there. If that deadline is missed penalties will have to be paid – big ones. Even with the money from the feds if he gets it, how the hell is Duncan going to run transmission to Manitoba, a province wanting to sell Ontario power for years and who seems to have been messed about by all govts.

Hee hee… SimCity would have been a much different game if they had programmed NIMBYism into it.
“Citizens demand a power plant! But not near the waterfront, historic neighbourhoods or native-treaty land!”

They should make a SimToronto, where a community group springs up and fights you if you try and put a building up pretty much anywhere in the city that is taller than 3 stories. :)

    Power is always a LULU.
But the HPV vaccine is great news. I have too many friends having cervixes removed before they turn 30. If this can stop it that’s awesome. But I did misread the headline, I saw “real bad pap”.

Oh man, I had forgotten about the greatness of Sim City – thank you for reminding me. I loved that game, but I could never, ever get any damn water running through the underground pipes for a reasonable amount of time.

You SO didn’t just reference the Hep B video.
    lol
That song has haunted me since grade 6.
