Cory Doctorow Comes To Town

2007-1-23-corydoctorow.jpgCory Doctorow, editor of BoingBoing, author of many books (including Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom and Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town), and former Torontonian, will be in his hometown and our fair city on Thursday February First, promoting his new collection of short stories Overclocked: Stories of the Future Present.

The event will be at 7pm at Bakka Books (697 Queen Street West), the world’s oldest science fiction bookstore. Cory started working there when he was 17, and had his first book launch there at 29, so it should be an evening fraught with a little bit of past along with the present and future.

If you want to preview the content before the event, Cory -- a firm believer in the power of Creative Commons -- has the full text of all the stories in the book online in a variety of formats (PDF, HTML, plaintext, Microsoft Reader, et al), as well as podcasts of him reading the stories aloud. Your best bet is to start with "When Sysadmins Ruled the Earth" -- it's set in mid-apocalyptic Toronto, and it's quite a trip to bike down Spadina listening to a description of the CN Tower crashing down.
