Overheard in the lobby halfway through the second act of Wicked, the “spellbinding musical” at the Canon Theatre.
An usher approaches a couple exiting with their coats.
Usher: Is everything alright?
Man: Yes. We just couldn’t be in there anymore.
Usher: Was there a problem?
Woman: There’s just too much singing.

    Though this is awesomely funny, I can kind of sympathize; having seen Dreamgirls a few weeks ago (review will be up soon), there is such a thing as too much singing in a musical. Though you have to wonder what they expected…

    From what I understand, it’s not even a through-sung show. It’s a standard singing and talking and singing musical.

    my coworker went to see it on the weekend. he said after a while you kinda start thinking about the two leads, “jeez, girls, you can take a break you know” ‘cos they are always on and singing. this philistine wouldn’t know, though.
