What was Streeter expecting?

Overheard in the lobby halfway through the second act of Wicked, the "spellbinding musical" at the Canon Theatre.

An usher approaches a couple exiting with their coats.

Usher: Is everything alright?

Man: Yes. We just couldn't be in there anymore.

Usher: Was there a problem?

Woman: There's just too much singing.

Though this is awesomely funny, I can kind of sympathize; having seen Dreamgirls a few weeks ago (review will be up soon), there is such a thing as too much singing in a musical. Though you have to wonder what they expected...

From what I understand, it's not even a through-sung show. It's a standard singing and talking and singing musical.

And it was great!

my coworker went to see it on the weekend. he said after a while you kinda start thinking about the two leads, "jeez, girls, you can take a break you know" 'cos they are always on and singing. this philistine wouldn't know, though.

So when the ticket said "Wicked, THE MUSICAL" did they think it was going to be mimed?

It should be called "Wicked, The Singing Play".
