On The Lam

2006_12_11lam.jpgAward-winning Toronto author (and emergency physician) Vincent Lam will give his first public reading since winning the Scotiabank Giller Prize this Wednesday as Diaspora Dialogues teams up with the Harbourfront Centre’s International Reading series.

Diaspora Dialogues, which is about to enter its third year, is joining forces with Harbourfront's International Readings series to host a slew of events in 2007, including a mini-festival in June right before Book Expo.

While the chance to hear Vincent Lam read is worth the trek down to Queen’s Quay, the evening will also feature playwright Catherine Hernandez, whose play Singkil will premiere with Factory Theatre in January 2007; poet and novelist Priscila Uppal, who is is a professor of Humanities at York University and Coordinator of the Creative Writing Program; spoken word artist Gein Wong, who also produces electronic music; and playwright Evan Placey.

The event takes place this Wednesday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Brigantine Room at Harbourfront. It is free.

He's actually had a few readings since winning the Giller already, and he's going to have a few more in Toronto in the next week and across Canada over the next few months.
