Friday, Dec. 8 will mark the debut of LISTEN!, a listening group and library started to bridge the apparent gap between Toronto’s music scene and the University of Toronto students in its midst. “We started the club up because we feel that Toronto’s music culture is very rich but that a lot of U of T kids aren’t really aware of everything that’s available to them right in their own backyard,” says Valentine Gurfinkel, co-founder with Alicia Rouault. “We hope to change that perception, and to encourage people to explore this metropolis of ours.”
LISTEN!’s inception will be celebrated with a show at U of T’s Cat’s Eye. The line-up includes Ninja Highschool, Pyramid Culture, and DJ Wes Allen — a trio last seen performing on the same bill on DJ Cyber-Rap’s Funeral this past summer. (Dare we expect a surprise cameo on Friday?) The show begins at 8pm.
