Torontoist's online HQ has been all a-twitter and a-quiver this afternoon with the delicious (if a little startling) news from Mirvish Productions. Below, Paige shares a top-priority emergency dispatch from her 9-5 outpost.

Torontoist was horrified at last month's news that a Dirty Dancing remake is in the works. We may watch the film over and over again, but that doesn't mean that we want former Saved by the Bell'er Mario Lopez taking Patrick Swayze's place in our teenage dancing dreams. And please, aside from the many continuity errors we see nothing wrong with the 1987 classic.

But a Dirty Dancing musical? Now you've piqued our interest!

This afternoon Toronto learned it's about to have the time of its life: David and Ed Mirvish announced that the North American premiere of Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage will open at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in October 2007.

We just know this stage adaptation will be a success. Unlike the make-a-quick-profit sequel, the Dirty Dancing musical is written by Eleanor Bergstein, the author and co-producer of the original. From the press release: "Since people saw the movie over and over and over again, I decided what they really wanted was to be there when it was happening. The stage offers the opportunity to have it LIVE, NOW, and have MORE."

How did she know we've pined for a Kellermans of our own, dressed in jazz shoes and leotards, and choreographed our own routines to the soundtrack?
