Former Toronto police chief and current OPP commissioner Julian Fantino is being sued for allegedly using a Police Services board case to maliciously advance his own career. The suit accuses Fantino of multiple skullduggeries, including wiretapping the chair of the Police Services Board. Now, I know what you're thinking - "but Julian Fantino was such a nice police chief. Except for the corruption scandals and the racial profiling and the homophobia."
TTC considering leasing out owned property and airspace over subway stations to build office complexes and condos. I personally can't imagine living anywhere but in a condo where I can feel the subway pass by every ten minutes all day long!
Slightly old but still huge news: researchers at Sick Kids say they're pretty sure they've found what can eventually be the cure for diabetes. This, of course, should only be further proof that Toronto is the CENTER OF THE WORLD and that when we tell Alberta to suck it we have due justification for doing so. Take that, Edmonton! New Archbishop named for Toronto. Given that he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI, the fact that he feels it appropriate to deny Communion to public officials who might pass laws contrary to Catholic beliefs should not shock anybody overly.
Time Magazine Canada has named Stephen Harper as its Newsmaker of the Year. Whatever you might think about the choice, it beats the hell out of Time USA naming You as their choice, because Time Canada at least had the balls to name somebody individual rather than pandering yet again to the "it's the Internet and it's SO AWESOME" demographic.
And finally, Jose Calderon is just fine and has suffered no nerve damage after the Raptors' 120-115 defeat of the Golden State Warriors yesterday.

I can't believe that I used to like Time Magazine. They really must like internet.
what a cop out. for a second i thought maybe they were recognizing web 2.0 but that is a much broader array of websites than ones that rely on "user-generated content" (which is a pretty dull name itself - we need something better!)
You guys are plumbing new depths. If you're going to make a snarky comment, try and make it rational, rather than requiring people to ignore the fact that the vast majority of high rise residential projects in Toronto's core are built on top of the subway lines.
Just a quick list: 1 King West, 7 King East, 10 Bel-air, 1 Bedford, Bloor Walk, Minto Midtown...
So the question is: is Torontoist anencephalic, or is it written by suburban Markham kids living in their parents' basement?
