If you have lived in a metropolitan area all your life, you may not have known that in some parts of the world, one can see little points of light in the night sky. These are called stars.
This Friday, you will be able to see stars in Toronto! Those crazy kids at Newmindspace are putting together a twinkly, glowing installation of LED's and helium to create an artificial starscape, along with several other interactive installations on Front Campus at the University of Toronto. Inspired in part by Burning Man, the evening should recall the feeling of being out on the playa and gazing into the electric sky.
Night Lights participants are encouraged to bring their own glowing objects and light up the ground as they gaze skyward at the ad-hoc constellations. More guest artists, like Pearl Chen's (fly)light, are sought.

I wonder how many bats and birds will be ensnared by the balloon lines.
i know you're being facetious, but just in case anybody is wondering:
in terms of bird safety, we have gotten the go-ahead from FLAP on this one. as far as waste management goes, all the balloons and string will be composted, all the lights + weights will be re-used, and all the electricity is bullfrog powered. don't worry, we've been thinking about this for months.
I wish so badly i could be in town for this. Stupid duty calling in stupid London. This idea is so awesome. It's going to be a sigt to see, surely...
Hooray! I can't wait. I went to the World Press Photo exhibit, and there was a picture of something similar and it was absolutely amazing. Now I'll get to experience it in person!
I have no excuse to not check this one out. See ya there, Kevin.
