School Board Website Hacked For Election Day

tdsb_owned.jpg

It’s the dawn of election day, so Torontoist assumes that our readers are doing their proper diligence with some last-minute cramming on who’s running for school trustee in their respective areas. The Toronto District School Board website isn’t going to be of any help, however: it’s been hacked by a group of Brazilian script kiddies who go by the name Un-Root Crew.
Un-Root Crew, aside from not having girlfriends and using the usual circa-2001 lame 133t cracker-speak, tends to post anti-government diatribes in Portuguese on the pages they deface, claiming nobility for bringing attention to the problem of bureaucratic corruption. Whatever.
Only the TDSB’s front page has been hijacked, so the current trustee page is still available here. A PDF listing of all Toronto’s 456 electoral candidates is here, or check-out the Star‘s list of school trustees, which has photos and links to many of the trustees’ websites.
UPDATE: The TDSB site has now been restored, while Un-Root Crew continues to do nothing particularly productive with their time.

Take that, school trustees! What does that text actually say, in English?

  • Marc Lostracco

My favourite trustee photo is Joel Dick’s (Ward 14, about halfway down the Star page). It’s the whole, “Oh, hello! Didn’t see you there!” thing. Or he’s stubbing-out a cigarette.

  • Marc Lostracco

I think in this case it’s something like, “Cuter than a Ford Ka, more charming than an Ethiopian, smarter than a rhinoceros.” Somebody correct me!
I believe “fofo” is a colloquial term for something cute in the little baby/fluffy kitten vein. Ethiopians may not be particularly fluffy, but they very well may be cute.

  • Phill

Some of it is in mild slang.
    Prettier than a Ford Ka.
    Softer/Cuter/fluffier than an ethiopian
    Nicer/gentler than a rhinoceros
A quick google search turns out their outrage at the Lula gov’t in Brasil.
Why they are hacking the tdsb website is another story.

    haha. god i love defacements

  • rofl

the writer of this article isnt biased at all!
in fact tbh he probably never gets out, and cant get over his precious site, what a load of crap that site is

^ Is that one of them? Call the Internet Police!

    I wish that I was 1337.

Parents take note: rofl’s post is what happens when you don’t take an active interest in your child’s education. They graduate without a grasp on basic grammar and can’t effectively articulate themselves.
How appropriate that the post was in reference to school trustees.

In the first sentence, though, he does demonstrate a good grasp of sarcasm.

  • Marc Lostracco

Perhaps a good grasp of sarcasm, but not a good grasp of what a blog is. I missed the memo mandating me to be unbiased, but if I’m accused of being biased against lame, snot-nosed script kiddies, I can live with that.

I guess they really had to look hard to find a site they could actually hack that would let them feel like they were kind of sort of fighting the power. Or maybe of them went to school in Toronto and had a bad experience.

  • rek

He also seems to think the TDSB site is your personal site.
