Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival: Guy "Madden"

2006_11_07_rendezvous.jpgGuy Maddin is given an all-day retrospective at this year’s Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival, which opens tonight (at 7:30pm, with short Pretty Broken and Ole Christian Madsen’s Kira’s Reason: A Love Story). There is a full schedule, of course, with programmes carefully grouped to certain aspects of mental health, such as sexuality (Queer Madness) or addiction (Hell’s Half Acre); programme All in the Family includes a screening of Cottonland, which played at this year’s Hot Docs and deals with substance abuse in Nova Scotia.

But wait! Did we say… All-day Guy Maddin retrospective? Yes we did! November 18th has three consecutive programmes of Guy Maddin films, with everything from his first film, The Dead Father, to his acclaimed short for the 25th Anniversary of the Toronto International Film Festival, Heart of the World. Excellent. Screenings are at the Workman Theatre (1001 Queen Street West) and MOCCA (952 Queen Street West). Full details at their website.
