New Council Will Get New Powers, Police Officer Stabbed, Tainted Chocolates Force Recall

2007_11_13cityhall.jpgOk everyone, vote wisely. Your new city council will actually have the powers to do things without turning to the province, thanks to the new City of Toronto Act. Oh, and they’ll be in power for the next four years too.
More proof that we live in wonderful times, the Ministry of Transportation unveils the new fancy fare cards which will be faster and more convenient than those shiny little tokens. Now we just have to wait for the TTC to come on board.
A police officer was stabbed when he tried to break up a brawl in the club district. Six others were stabbed, fortunately no one died.
A 21-year old man was shot nine times and found in his North York apartment.
The renovation of Regent Park has sparked a turf war among drug dealers and gangs in the area. Many of the buildings that were torn down were notorious for drug use and crime.
There’s camaraderie among Jewish deli owners. Perl’s Meats and Delicatessen was gutted by a fire on Friday. Fortunately a competitor has stepped up and agreed to help long-time deli owner Herman Perl.
If you’re eating a Hershey’s chocolate put it down. Turns out that little sugary snack might be contaminated with E Coli Salmonella. Ewww.
