In the window of Rita di Cesare's Toronto studio, there's a naked mannequin. For a first-time visitor, it's a temporary shock: You avert your eyes, looking at the studio's teal walls while thinking that someone in front of you is undressing. But it's apropos for the local headquarters of fashion label Nude Clothes.

Designer di Cesare hit the scene a few years ago, her label the happy byproduct of an industrial design internship. Her background also includes creating racecar suits and couture wedding gowns -- the DNA of both still resides in her clothing today. When asked about the oxymoron of her company name, she cheekily replies, "isn't fashion about being naked anyway?"

Her clothes for women are smart, fitted, and versatile ... and undeniably cool. Raw denim jackets and luxurious silk wrap dresses are embellished with intricate hand-beading, embroidery, and metallic stitching. Described as "basics with a twist," her blouses, skirts and dresses can easily transition from officewear to partywear -- rather convenient for the holiday season.

We all know someone whose wardrobe is in desperate need of a locally-made garment. Perhaps even you. (And guys, I have it on good authority that your best gal will love a Nude wrap skirt. They only come in one size and two colours, so shopping's easy.)
